This site will be on hiatus starting now as I make the inevitable switch to Drupal. I don't know why I need a CMS like a swiss army knife when I don't even have any sort of community to build, but I JUST WANT ONE. Anyway, you can probably look forward to fun and exciting things in the future, once I get round the vagaries of Views and Blocks and other esoteric terms because I will have an insane amount of control once I figure out how to use them. Also, I hate writing 'articles' when I'd rather write a 'blog'. I have no idea why, but the terms and taxonomies make a huge difference. Joomla has fulfilled its purpose and I actually like the admin interface a lot better but it's time to go down the CCKrowley road now. I'll see you in hell niggaz.

A few years ago, one of the things I found myself arguing about with my musician friends was whether such a thing as an 'objective' music existed. I was against such a fascistic idea and my high-minded friends were unwilling to relinquish their delusions of meaning.
So it was with some surprise that I found myself in the very same argument, with my less-musically-inclined-crit-theory-loving boyfriend, on a very different side. Somehow, over the course of some curried soft shell crab and evangelizing the doctrine of the B Wilson Church, I had painted myself into this position by insisting that some music was better made than others. |

Out of the murky swamp that is 90's Britpop, came Dog Man Star, an album that was incredibly evocative and accomplished, with tin foil guitars that still managed to sound delicately constructed and strings the size of purgatory (for those the size of heaven, see Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space). When Suede's sound fell apart so violently on Coming Up, you just knew that the genius of that album was the guy who left right after, that is, Bernard Butler, whose claim to fame nowadays (going by a quick google search) is his production of Duffy. |

Google Video is fucking great! With the handy "<20 min" search function, a whole bunch of shows become accessible to you instantly. Recently, after going through most of TED, I've been using it to watch a bunch of documentaries. From all the crap I trudged through (including stuff about Freemasons and Ghosts That Live In London), I've picked 5 that you should take a look at. I'm not putting any links here because I'd rather not increase the chances of them being taken down but you can find them quite easily on GV I'm sure. Actually, maybe I should make this a weekly feature, knowledge being good and all that. Anyway, this week's theme is... God is dead, people are crazy, your government has betrayed you and there's no way out unless you want to end up stalking Brent Spiner. |
